When Laurie was 16 she was approached by a little clothing store in foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains where she attended high school. The owners asked if she would like to be photographed in one of their advertisements. She gladly accepted the offer and when she graduated, decided to leave her job as a nurse’s aid to model in San Francisco with agent, Jimmy Grimme. Six months later she chopped her hair into an 80’s pixie and earning her signature short hair look in the city by the bay. It was time to hit New York & Laurie had read about Eileen Ford’s legacy and wanted to be represented by “The Best.” In 1986 she signed with Eileen and Jerry Ford in New York who promptly took her into their home along with her cat, Whitney. Laurie graced the pages of American Vogue, Australian Vogue, French Elle, American Elle, American Harpars Bazaar and several Cosmopolitan covers. Some of the photographers she was honored to work with include: Patrick Demarchelier, Gilles Bensimon, Mr. Irving Penn, Robert Erdman, Michel Comte, and Marc Hispard. Some of the designers and campaigns Laurie appeared in: Cover Girl, Guess jeans, Almay, Clariol, Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Vidal Sassoon, Matrix, Cynthia Rowely, Carolina Herrera, Christos, Nicholas Felizola and others. Laurie lives in upstate New York with her daughter Kennah and has currently earned the name of “Lady Chaga” with regards to her new business venture Birchborn Organics.
